Karen Gedig Burnett was an elementary school counselor for over 20 years. Early in her career she started telling stories to help students learn about themselves and how to handle difficulties. She realized she had a talent for taking complex ideas and making them ‘seeable,’ and therefore easier to understand. Some of her stories became children’s books, and as of this date she has four children’s books dealing with life skills.
As her books were published she began speaking at schools and presenting at conferences throughout the United States. Although her primary audience was often elementary students, adults would invariably come forward with comments such as: “This helped me more than it helped my students (or child).” Or, “I needed to hear that. It will help me deal with....” Or, “I wish I had learned this when I was younger.” Or, “You should do something like this for adults.”
One person even said, “I’ve been in therapy for six years, but you helped me more in one hour than [therapy did] in all that time.”
So although she was often speaking to children, adults benefited from her messages as well. That’s when she realized she needed to write her latest book; Choose Your Life: A Travel Guide for Living.
Mrs. Burnett continues to speak and teach to both young and old; sharing her ideas to help everyone develop healthier life habits.
Although originally from Indiana; Mrs. Burnett lives in Northern California with her family.
Karen Gedig Burnett has a Masters in Educational Psychology from Indiana University (1975) and a Masters in Counseling from San Bernardino State University (1978).
